The 4SEAS Exhibition at Sevastopol Marine Aquarium (SMA) has been opened in April 2009 as a non-stop multimedia demonstration of the original videos recently released by the Sevastopol participants which are: (i) “A.O. Kovalevsky’s Institute of Biology of the Southern Seas: Past and present. Part 1: Sevastopol Biological Station, 1871–1939” on the early history of the Black Sea studies; (ii) “Euplotes: A life in a day” – an exciting story about a microscopic being – a ciliate Euplotes living in sea (see http://www.4seas.eu/cinema); (iii) “In the Depths of the Sea” – the first soviet popular science film about marine biology researches, provided by a national film archive.
On 20th April 2009, the 4SEAS project was officially inaugurated at the SMA and IBSS in Sevastopol. The grand opening programme included, first, a presentation of the project partners and the 4SEAS events programme for adult-and-child audience and, second, opening of the 4SEAS Sailor’s Chest with a theatrical performance for children in a SMA exhibition hall (see the video and images at this page). The audience welcomed the films and pupils were very excited by penetrating to secrets of life of marine microbes and participating in a game with the Salior’s Chest – they took artefacts one by one out of the chest and guessed from which European sea and country they originated.
